He also knows that all the craziness Jono just spouted at him about fictional people and Jack Harkness and whatever this box of torched wood is has to be absolute nonsense that his mind just made up. Nothing else makes logical sense. He can't reconcile this with what he knows about the way the universe works. If he tried, there'd be no hope left for his mind.
Instead, he carefully sets the box aside and nods to Jono's offer of help. Hopefully that isn't just in his head, too.
